Two little precognitive dream moments popped up in meat space recently, both odd because they revolve around an image within the dream.

The first is odder still because I remembered it after waking, and that memory more or less led to the actual event occurring. Sort of, anyway. That is, I dreamed of looking into an aquarium with a 'tank topper,' a wire cage that fits over the top of the aquarium to give the animal inside more cage space. Inside, I saw a half-chewed box with a Star Trek image on it. I wasn't confused or surprised by the image in my dream, as I had a hamster cage like this near the bed, and recognized the box as one of several cheap paperbook boxed set holders I'd pulled from my bookshelves to throw out or use as hamster hide-outs. The cage's surroundings in the dream were off, near the living room fireplace rather than in the bedroom, and the wrong hamster was in the cage, as Pochi is the one with the tank topper and Bandit, the dream cage's inhabitant, had only the basic aquarium.

Soon after, summer kicked in, my bedroom proved to be too warm for the hamsters, and they were all moved into the living room, near the fireplace. Bandit, excited by the change of scenery, began to look for new ways to escape his aquarium just as tank toppers were marked down to a nice low price, so I bought one for him. When lining the wire floors with cardboard, I pondered how best to tackle an awkward corner where food was easily tossed out, and remembered the Star Trek box folded around that corner in the dream. In the waking world it was just as perfect a fit. And then a week later, I looked down into the cage, saw the box moved and chewed just as it had been in the dream, with the same large uneaten food bits nearby.

Interesting, I think, the way things play out.

The second moment was an unfamiliar photo of bellydancer Rachel Brice viewed at an odd angle on my computer screen. Tonight I found a lovely photo of her that seemed to nibble at my brain oddly. When I turned away to glance out of my bedroom window, I caught the computer monitor and photo out of the corner of my eye and remembered where I had seen it before. I could say that once again the dream led to the reality, but I wasn't looking at the photo because it reminded me of something so much as I was looking at the photo because OMG, Rachel Brice, heh.

I am also having a bizarre dream-related problem at work, a very "When Lucid Dreaming Attacks" sort of problem that is very embarrassing.

When I go to the restroom, I pull my pants down, sit down and begin to pee, and then am overcome by a strong and sudden lucid-thought-at-the-edge-of-dreaming sensation. It insists that I am really sleeping and only dreaming that I am in a restroom because my bladder is full and if I don't stop and get up now I will wet the bed.

It's a very disturbing feeling, because for a moment I seriously do not know where I am or what to do. The workplace restroom is small and bland and very short on reality-clues, so looking around for some hint that I might be dreaming is fruitless; all I can do is whiz on and pray that I don't have to change the sheets later.

If it were a unique occurrence or a matter of sleep deprivation, I would probably laugh it off, but it is happening daily, even when I am well-rested.

(And here I've not had a bit of luck experimenting with lucid dreaming, either. Grrr.)
