Dream: Carousing with the wrong crowd
Mar. 26th, 2009 11:52 amCarousing with the wrong crowd
Only the broad strokes of this dream stuck around, so I'm afraid I can't offer much in the way of elaboration.
I was hanging out with some friends and we met a girl, and we all ended up back at my apartment. We all decided to go shop-hopping and as I left, I realized that I'd forgotten my shoes. I saw them at the bottom of the steps as we ran down, along with two other pair (so I wasn't the only one barefoot), and I picked them up as we passed. One of the other girls was carrying a handful of bras, including mine, and I vaguely remembered (in the dream) taking it off because it was uncomfortable. There is a gap in the dream after this.
When the dream picked up, we went into another building that I didn't recognize, into an apartment or hotel room that I didn't recognize (but which was similar to a friend's old studio apartment with a slightly different layout), and all crashed laughing like teenagers. The new girl sat alone in a chair in the corner. I said, "Why am I not wearing shoes?" and realized that it sounded like a whine, so I said more obviously joking, "I don't care much about the shoes, but where's my bra?" Everyone laughs, someone cracks about me drinking, one person jokes about the rhythm method and jumps on me in his shorts. I slap him with a laugh and push him off.
Notes and explanatory details
#1. Before bed, I was thinking that "Rhythm Nation" would make the perfect anthem for the rhythm method. I don't know why, but it was pretty late, so that probably has something to do with it.
#2. In the dream, my apartment was a chic second story number in The Big City, I was a svelte and social party girl and my friends were witty and attractive and lots of fun. In reality, I live in a run-down duplex near the edge of a small city, it's been a long, long time since I ran around drinking and laughing my ass off with friends, and none of those friends made an appearance in this dream.
#3. No, the friends in this dream were clearly supposed to be the nerdy gaming friends that I only see once a week, on nerdy gaming day. The group consisted of 'dream extras' who fill in space but don't correspond to real people, except for two individuals, who did not remotely match the people they were supposed to be, and the feel and personality of the dream group (if this makes any sense) did not, at all, fit the feel and personality of the actual group. I like 'em, but these are not friends I would be lounging on a bed with, drunk, bra-less, and joking about sex; it's just not that kind of gang.
I hate to say it, but I think this might be a catty little observation from my subconscious about the quality of my social life lately.
#3. I immediately thought of the new girl as one group member's new girlfriend, even though I've never met his new girlfriend and, in the dream, she was not.
#4. Although I've forgotten more of the dream than I remember, I know that the shop-hopping played a big part in it. Shops are on my mind these days, as I'm trying to set up a small shop to sell my own goods, and have been setting up at-home businesses in the Sims 2.
(Okay, it's definitely a catty observation on my social life...)
