Dream: The adopted nephew
May. 17th, 2004 01:41 pmI dreamt of a party. My sister was there, with all of her friends and family, and her son, and a two strangers. They hovered around my nephew, and he left with them. After some events that I can't remember, there was another gathering in a place with a marble interior, so maybe a church or government building. Yet another couple was holding my nephew, and they were angry and upset; the first strange couple was talking to them, pleading with them to do the right thing, that they'd realized this was how things had to be, that it was all for the best and there was a reason for those six months.
I followed my mother into a secretive little area--fallopian-like tunnels inside a camera, if I'm not combining odd dream elements--and asked her what was going on. She didn't want to say in front of my sister, as my asking had angered the sister greatly, but my nephew had been taken away, and the new couple wanted to keep him.
I was either told or somehow knew then that the first couple, at the party, had the nephew then but had given him back, and were now trying to convince the new couple not to fight my sister's regaining custody of her son, but they didn't want to give him up. I think six months is, at least in the dream, the amount of time following an adoption in which a mother can change her mind and get her child back before it's finalized.
I asked why the boy had been taken away, and it was something about my sister having inserted a breathing tube into him on her own. It made no sense, but I couldn't get a better answer, as my sister appeared at that point, angry, and my mother shut up.
Notes and explanatory details
Around this time I heard that a family member had lost her children a while back, and caught up on her on-going efforts to get them back.
