I dreamt last night that I was a terrorist. I dreamt I was a terrorist the night before as well, but I can't recall any more of that dream than just that detail.

I wasn't just a terrorist, I was a ninja terrorist, and I wasn't just a ninja terrorist, I was a gothic lolita ninja terrorist! We were a matching pair, like Thing One and Thing Two done over by American McGee and then shinobified, bouncing off the walls and leaping through the air. We giggled like little maniacs as we ran through a maze-like government office block, unconfused by the strange layout. On the contrary, we knew of secret passages and trapdoors that weren't on the blueprints, and we led security personnel on a merry chase.

It was our job to lead them away and keep them busy, so our cohorts had a chance to carry out their mission, though they weren't nearly as keen on their mission as we were.

In the next part of the dream I was observing two flying saucers, colored candy apple red with shiny chrome tops, and in one of them two men--the aforementioned cohorts--were very worried. They were also trying to evade the authorities, and to figure out exactly what had just happened and what they were supposed to do now. They hadn't meant to become terrorists, or maybe they just hadn't meant for anybody else to get hurt by their actions, but they had been manipulated, they claimed, by the government. Yes, they never intended to run into any buildings, the government had pushed them!

They meant it literally. At one point, one of the men illustrated the point, the cityscene became a miniature model and the flying saucer a model in his hand, spinning like a basketball on his extended finger, as he tried to show their original trajectory and what had gone wrong (the government leaned on the steering column!) and how he had tried to stop it all.

There was also, as has been mentioned elsewhere, at least one displeased samurai, but I don't remember why he was displeased, or where he came into the dream.

Notes and explanatory details
#1. This was not the whole dream. This was not even most of the dream. The terrorist angle was only a minor subplot of a larger, more interesting dream. I woke up with a solution for the two men in the flying saucer ("Why don't they just...") but that solution has disappeared into the mists, along with the samurai. I find this greatly frustrating, as I'm far more interested in the samurai.

#2. Notice the repeating pairs? A pair of shinobi girls (and a pair of security guards after each, I think), a pair of saucers, a pair of men in one of the saucers.

#3. I can probably explain the appearance of samurai and shinobi with last night's viewing of "Samurai Champloo," but it doesn't explain the flying saucers or the terrorists. The business next door does sometimes get a bit loud in their pre-dawn deliveries, and it's possible that I was half-woken and picked up on someone's political discussion, weaving it into the dream as I slipped back into it, but again, flying saucers?

#4. Or maybe they weren't flying saucers. The saucers looked a lot like those circular metal gizmos that sit at the top of a car engine. When I was small, I would often wander into the automotive part of the department store and daydream that these were UFOs, because I was a spacey kid with little supervision.
