Dream stub: ritual doorways
Apr. 9th, 2006 10:25 pmAs originally mentioned in the comments for the previous dream, this morning I dreamt of trying to save a very young Jan van Eyck, or some artifact he was carrying, from Nazis. They caught wind of me, however, and destroyed the town in which we were holing up, wiping out a nearby university (the one that has appeared in my dreams before, a Roman ampitheatre-like area located off of a highway). I got him onto a train heading away, into the verdant countryside, but felt responsible for the destruction our presence had brought.
As some point in the dream I was trying to hide from my pursuers and came to a blank wall in what looked like an archaeological ruin. A group of children of various ages crowded nearby; I believe most, if not all, were female. Through a strange verbal ritual in which I called out a question and a child called back an answer, they spread their arms and became doors and windows.
The tone of the ritual was oddly reminiscent of Dead Can Dance's "Song of the Stars": "And who will make the way for me to pass over?" I called, and a child responded, "I will make the way for you to pass over," and walked into the wall...
